Diddy producer Chucky Thompson dies as tributes pour in from hip hop

Legendary hip hop producer Chucky Thompson has died, it has been announced.

The late musician was best known as a member of Diddy’s Hitmen production team under his Bad Boy Records label. 

Thompson’s death was announced by producer and DJ Guru, who shared an Instagram photo of them together with the caption: ‘There is nothing I can write that will take away this pain. I have to say RIP to my mentor, my big brother, the man who changed my life forever. You were the kindest person the world has ever seen. 

‘You were the most gifted musician I have ever been around. You treated me like family from day one. You made a point to the labels that I had to fly to New York with you on every session. You put me in rooms with Biggie.’ 

Guru added: ‘I will forever be in your debt and I will forever be your little brother. This one hurts so bad I can’t even explain it. RIP @chucklife365 there will never be another you!!!!’ 

A cause of death was not revealed. 

Tributes poured in from across hip hop with Swizz Beatz commenting crying emoji under Guru’s post, and rapper Busta Rhymes writing: ‘Noooooooo f*****g way!!!!!!!!!!!! Nooo.’

Wale tweeted: ‘This Chucky Thompson news hurt.’ 

Kid Capri also passed on his condolences and said: ‘Man, a few days ago, I received a call that myself, Pete Rock @djpremier and CHUCK was being inducted into the Washington DC hip hop hall of fame,,, this is crazy. Smh,,,,Rest well legend.’ 

Thompson was best known for producing The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic hit Big Poppa and Nas’ One Mic, while he received a Grammy nomination for his work on Mary J Blige’s iconic 1994 album, My Life. 

The producer had worked with a host of other well known artists including Usher, Faith Evans and TLC. 

Thompson was a member of Diddy’s Hitmen crew alongside Easy Moe Bee and Deric ‘D-Dot’ Angeletti aka The Madd Rapper.

Most recently, he contributed to Diddy’s upcoming album, Off The Grid Volume 1, which will be the hip hop mogul’s first in 15 years and is set for release in September.
