Chadwick Boseman wins Best Actor at SAG Awards for final film before his death

Chadwick Boseman has won the Best Actor award at the 2021 SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.

He won for his role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, after also being nominated for Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his turn in Da 5 Bloods.

His wife, Simon Ledward Boseman accepted the award on his behalf thanking everyone on the film and stating: ""Thank you, God. Thank you Leroy and Carolyn Boseman.

"If you see the world unbalanced, be a crusader that pushes heavily on the seesaw of the mind. That's a quote by Chadwick Boseman. Thank you Screen Actors. Thank you, Chad."

Chadwick died in August 2020 at the age of 43 years old, following a private four-year battle with colon cancer.

Actor Daniel Kaluuya who beat out Chadwick for the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah dedicated the award to Chadwick saying: "This one's for Chadwick Boseman, and this one's for [Black Panther Party] Chairman Fred Hampton. Thank you so much."

Chadwick's co-star in the film, Viola Davis, also won big at the awards, taking home the gong for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading role.

In her acceptance speech she thanked the "beautiful Chadwick Boseman".
