Beth Chapman of the reality TV show Dog the Bounty Hunter and wife of Duane “Dog” Chapman has died. She was 51.
The sad news was reported by TMZ on Wednesday, June 26, and confirmed in a tweet by her husband.
“It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven,” Dog wrote. “We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side.”
Here are a few facts about the late Beth Chapman.
Her battle with cancer
News of Beth’s death came just a few days after her family announced that she was placed in a medically-induced coma at a hospital in Honolulu.
Beth was taken to the hospital on June 21 when she had trouble breathing. In 2017, she was diagnosed with stage 2 throat cancer. She said she learned of the cancer after going for a routine checkup for a nagging cough. She had a tumor in her throat removed and was deemed cancer free, however, the disease returned in 2018.
This year on Mother’s Day, Beth announced that she had stopped getting her chemotherapy treatments.
“Chemotherapy is not my bag, people. Sorry, that’s not for me,” she said. “So for me, this is the ultimate test of faith. This is my ultimate lesson. And it will either be taught to me or to you. And I am fine with taking the hit for everyone else. Because I think I know another guy who did the same thing.”
Beth just finished shooting a new TV show with Dog
Despite her cancer battle, Beth continued working and recently wrapped up shooting their new show titled Dog’s Most Wanted, which was scheduled to air sometime in 2020. Some of her health struggles were documented in the show.
In the trailer, Dog says: “My wife, the love of my life, is fighting for her life. Instead of being at home helping her, I’m out here looking for you. So, I’m warning you in advance: May God have mercy on you when I get you. Cause I won’t.”
Beth and Dog, of course, starred in their A&E series Dog the Bounty Hunter from 2003 to 2012 followed by Dog and Beth: On the Hunt in 2013.
Her net worth
At the time of her death, Beth had an estimated net worth of $2 million and Dog’s is said to be worth around $6 million, bringing their combined net worth to $8 million.
The couple, who were married in 2006, earned more than $400 million for the original Dog the Bounty Hunter series during its eight seasons. Beth, who became a licensed bail bondsman when she was 29 years old, was also the executive producer of Dog and Beth: On the Hunt. They received residuals from spin-off shows other television appearances over the years.
In 2017 after Beth’s cancer diagnosis, they returned to reality TV for a two-hour special called Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives.
Beth is survived by Dog and her four children — Dominic, Cecily, Bonnie Jo, and Garry — as well as 14 grandchildren.
