The “Zaddy” of the Internet, Christopher Meloni, has to look good. And, that means eating right. The Law and Order: SVU star realized he had to change his eating habits once he began edging closer to diabetes and high cholesterol. Swapping eggs for egg whites. Eating on an eight-hour intermittent fasting schedule. Getting his thousands of calorie intake daily, so his body is fueled for workouts. In the latest edition of Eat Like, the actor spoke with Men’s Health and shared what he eats to maintain his body.
Though he’s on a diet, Meloni eats whatever he wants. This “horse training”—his words— is picking what foods he’s going to eat to fulfill his nutrients. Potatoes for starches. Chicken for protein. You get the drift.
As for his daily morning routine, there’s stretching, some yoga, and his workout regime. Remember his fasting schedule? No food before the eight-hour period. “[Intermittent fasting] is a game-changer for me,” he says. “Going through the ritual and everything about working out because it gets my head right. It centers me, gets me connected mind and body, and I feel as though I’ve accomplished something today.”
Lunch consists of the “Meloni meal,” brown chicken, rice, and some spinach. The secret ingredient that really adds spice to the meal? Worcester sauce (though Meloni pronounces it as “ wor-da-shire sauce”). Of course with a high-core workout regime and the fasting, he had to find some more nutrients elsewhere: supplements! “I [use] chocolate protein powder with frozen bananas and a little bit of filtered coffee.”
Dinner: ground turkey, rice, spinach, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, salmon…the list goes on. Fatty meats are a no-go for the actor. It’s all about getting his calorie intake and lowering his cholesterol level with fulfilling and nutritious foods.
Of course, he doesn’t end his day (and fasting schedule) without a snack. The actor keeps it pretty simple here with yogurt topped with berries or hummus and celery. It’s all about the benjamins baby—aka, the vegetables.
