'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild': Does Sheik's Mask Give Link the Stealth Set Bonus?

In the Enchanted shop in Kakariko Village, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players can buy the Stealth Set from Claree for Link to equip. Pairing the Stealth Tights, Stealth Chest Guard, and Stealth Mask gives Link a special set bonus called “Stealth Up.” However, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Sheik’s Mask from Ocarina of Time can be obtained by Link. Nintendo intended for Sheik’s Mask to pair with the Stealth Chest Guard and tights, but fans wonder if the mask still gives Link the set bonus.

How to obtain Sheik’s Mask in ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’

BOTW has dozens of armor items Link can obtain. Players can gain even more through Breath of the Wild DLC and scanning an amiibo.

To obtain Sheik’s Mask in Breath of the Wild, players must obtain the Sheikah Slate in the Shrine of Resurrection. Unlike other Sheikah Slate Runes in BOTW, players need to activate it from the Options menu.

Hit the + on the right Joycon, then the right trigger and the Options menu rests above Ability Controls and Breath of the Wild DLC.

Once the amiibo Rune is active, find a relatively flat surface and scan the Super Smash Bros. Sheik amiibo. If you scan it on a slope or hill, the amiibo Rune either will not activate, or the chest and items might roll away.

An assortment of mushrooms and a treasure chest will fall. The chest has a small chance of containing Sheik’s Mask from Ocarina of Time.

If you do not receive the mask on the first attempt, reload the save file and try again.

Does Sheik’s Mask Give Link the Stealth Set Bonus in ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’?

Unfortunately, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Sheik’s Mask does not work as a replacement for the Stealth Mask. Link does not receive the Stealth Up set bonus by wearing the Stealth Tights, Stealth Chest Guard, and Sheik’s Mask.

In addition, upgrading Sheik’s Mask versus the Stealth Mask on their own requires a lot more work for similar results.

Overall, Princess Zelda’s Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time disguise only stands as a cosmetic item.

While Link must shell out 500 rupees to Claree at the Enchanted shop in Kakariko Village for the Stealth Mask, it makes for a small price to pay when trying to upgrade the armor versus Sheik’s Mask.

The Stealth Mask is more practical than cosmetic

In Breath of the Wild, Sheik’s Mask and the Stealth Mask can be upgraded at Great Fairy Fountains to max out their defense at 16.

However, to reach the final upgrade level for Sheik’s Mask in Breath of the Wild, players must use 10 Silent Princess flowers and four Star Fragments, one of the rarest and difficult items to obtain in BOTW.

Meanwhile, the Stealth Mask not only gives Link the Stealth Up set bonus when paired with the Stealth Tights and Stealth Chest Guard, but Great Faries upgrade it with far more common items.

In total, Link needs 8 Blue Nightshades and 5 Sunset Fireflies for the first two upgrades. Then, for upgrades three and four, he needs 8 Silent Shrooms, 5 Sneaky River Snails, 10 Stealthfin Trout, and 5 Silent Princess flowers.

Overall, Sheik’s Mask makes for a fun callback in Breath of the Wild, but it offers very little in terms of functionality.
