A paramedic has revealed five ‘deadly signs’ something isn’t right with your baby – and revealed knowing the red flags could save your child’s life.

Nikki, a mum-of-two, and former paramedic says if your baby is hard to wake up or drowsy, wetting less nappies or is under three-months old and has a rash then there could be a problem and should be taken to the doctor right away. 

She also said if they have a non-blanching rash (a rash which doesn’t fade under pressure) or if they are having difficulty breathing then it could be cause for concern.

The dedicated health professional who posts online under the name ‘Tiny Hearts Education’ also said parents should ‘trust themselves’ and if they feel something isn’t right they should get help immediately.

Nikki now spends her time ‘saving lives’ from behind her computer – offering critical advice, tips and parenting hacks to her followers.

To take a baby’s temperature the former paramedic recommends sitting down and tucking your baby’s arms and legs around you in a cuddle.

Then, using the thermometer from the back, tucking it under baby’s arm and rocking them to keep them calm.

She is also big on food safety and suggests cutting round food, like grapes, into quarters.


She also said if they have a non-blanching rash (a rash which doesn’t fade under pressure) or if they are having difficulty breathing then it could be cause for concern.

She grates ‘hard food’ which might be a choking hazard and adds bread crumbs or coconut to the outside of slippery food like avocado and mango.

The mum’s tips and tricks are well received.

She recently posted a video highlighting the danger of cold chicken, rock melon, processed ham, prepacked salads and soft cheeses for expectant mothers.

 Some illnesses such as salmonella and listeria can cross the placenta to the unborn child, potentially triggering miscarriage, pre-term labour and stillbirth, which is why it is vital to avoid foods that carry a high risk of containing these strains of bacteria.

If your baby is drowsy and hard to wake up then there could be a problem

The highest volume of salmonella is carried in foods such as raw meats, raw eggs and raw or lightly cooked sprouts.

The largest amount of listeria – which is responsible for a flu-like infection called listeriosis – is found in refrigerated ‘ready-to-eat’ meat, poultry, seafood and dairy products.

‘There’s always going to be people who tell you they ate everything in pregnancy, and their baby was fine,’ Nikki wrote in the caption.

‘While that’s true for most, it’s not the case for everyone.’
