Miss GB who shed 8st says its acceptable to dump partner who wont lose weight

A former Miss Great Britain who lost eight stone after a difficult break up says it's 'totally acceptable' to dump a partner who has put on weight if they aren't 'willing to get back in shape'.

Jen Atkin, who was crowned Miss GB last year, appeared on Good Morning Britain this week to discuss Alice Evans claims that her estranged husband Ioan Gruffudd told her he would leave her if she 'gained weight'.

Columnist Jen, from Ulceby, Lincolnshire, said it was 'totally acceptable' to dump someone who 'wasn't willing to get healthy again' – especially if 'you don't fancy them anymore'.

However body confidence coach Queen MoJo, who was also on the ITV programme, insisted it shouldn't matter since 'weight isn't a personality trait'.

Jen went from 17 stone to 9 stone after the breakdown of her first serious relationship, after fearing that she wouldn't meet someone else.

She said: "I'm not saying that if your partner gains weight you should leave them straight away, but if they're not willing to get healthy again, and we need to stop looking at just their looks by the way, it's about health as well, if they're not willing to get back in shape, and not willing to do it together, then I think it's totally acceptable.

"…Let them trot off and find someone they fancy, and you find someone who loves you for who you are or like me, you lose the weight, you get healthy and get the perfect revenge bod."

She added: "You have to be compatible and if someone's interested in fitness and health, and your partner's not interested in fitness and health, you're not really compatible.

"You need to be with people who've got the same interests.

"And I think it's just important to realise, it's not just about the way you look, but the things you eat, what you do with your time, whether you enjoy the same things, and if one's person lazy and one person's active, it's not going to work anyway."

Queen MoJo argued that no one should be dumped because they've gained weight, though.

She said: "I don't think that should matter, because weight isn't a personality trait. Just because I've gained some weight it doesn't make me a lazy person. I'm fit, I'm fat and I'm healthy."

Jen won Miss GB last year last year after losing eight stone by swapping takeaways for healthy eating and exercising five days a week.

After struggling to fit into her clothes, she began walking regularly, hitting the gym and used YouTube to follow workouts including HIIT, running and weightlifting, before she was approached by a personal trainer who offered extra help.

She was named Miss Scunthorpe before soon becoming the runner-up of Miss England in 2018 and was then named the 75th Miss Great Britain at the national final in Leicester in February last year.
