A FORMER contestant on Eggheads has lifted the lid on what it's like to appear on the gameshow.
Taking to Reddit, user gazchap posted: "I was on Eggheads and couldn’t believe the ratty state of the set – there were holes everywhere."
The user, presumably known as Gary, appeared on the show alongside his family – and the close-knit group were soon left disgusted by its former home at the BBC studios.
"Was on Eggheads a few years back with my wife and brothers making up the rest of the team," he said.
"Filming was up in Glasgow, so we had to make our own way there and we were reimbursed the travel costs, and they put us up in a hotel for the night.
"Two things that stuck out to me were that the set was surprisingly 'cheap' looking."

The quizzer was then stunned into silence after noticing the state of the set.
He added: "The desk tops that we were sat at had loads of holes in the vinyl on the top of it and looked really ratty, but you can't tell when looking on the tellybox.
"When you're doing the head-to-head rounds, it looks really adversarial and separated.
"But in reality, you and your chosen Egghead are basically sat next to each other in an adjoining room looking into a camera in front of you."
It's not the first time that a game show contestant has spilled the beans on what it's like to take part.
In a recent interview, a former contestant on Countdown claimed that a man threatened to stamp on her head following her appearance on the show.
Following her lost list of accomplishments on the series saw a flurry of wild fan mail – but not all of it was positive.
