Every time we argue, my husband runs out the door to the pub

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband keeps going AWOL and it’s putting a strain on our marriage.

His way of dealing with arguments is to storm out to the pub and disappear for up to three days.

While he is missing, he doesn’t contact me, or respond to my messages or texts. I have no idea who he is with, or where he’s sleeping.

He waits till he has sobered up and thinks it is safe to return home. He stinks of booze and clearly hasn’t washed or changed his clothes.

Then he apologises and is lovely…until the next time.

I’m at the end of my tether.

We’ve been married for three years. I’m 33 and he’s 29 – only four years younger than me. But he acts like a little boy.

He simply can’t cope with conflict or stress.

It’s no way to live and not what I expected from a marriage.

We’ve got a two-year-old son, and half the time I feel like a single mum. In fact, I often feel like my husband’s mum!

I can’t carry on like this.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your husband’s not just immature, he “deals” with issues by drinking and running away. Please contact Drinkline, a free, confidential helpline (0300 123 1110).
