DIY couple update kitchen for less than £500 using Wilko and B&M bargain buys

A couple have given their kitchen a gorgeous DIY update for less than £500.

Sarah Bunting, an estate agent, and her husband, Lee Bunting, a business owner, both 40, from Sully, Wales, spent three weekends giving the room a stunning makeover.

The parents, who have a 10-year-old, realised during lockdown that they hadn’t revamped their home in years.

So, the couple rolled up their sleeves and decided to complete a “cheap” makeover.

Have you completed a DIY project this year? tell us about it in the comments section…

Speaking to Daily Star Online, Sarah said: “After spending a lot more time at home I noticed how little attention I had paid over the years to my own house and, selling beautiful homes every day, I thought time to put it right.

“We paid for our new bathroom to be ripped out and all redone professionally and that looked stunning.

“Then I looked at my kitchen and thought if I was selling my own house what would the feedback be – well it would have definitely been the dated kitchen.”

They bought all of their paint from Wilko and B&M.

Sarah said: “I used the white Wilko tile paint over the beige splash backs.

“And, black matte paint on the wall from B&M.

“The floor was a cushion floor vinyl roll from B&M for £39.99.”

The mum continued: ”Some shelves and accessories were from The Range and I did buy a new extractor fan in matte black from Screwfix for £69.99.

“My blinds were £19 from B&M.”

The couple had made to measure French door verticals added to finish it off.

In total the cost came to less than £500.

What a bargain.

Sarah posted some before-and-after snaps to Facebook.

She captioned the post, and said: “So here it is my grand reveal!

“Just French door blinds and light fittings to go but we are nearly there!

“I bring you my kitchen makeover for less than £500 courtesy of B&M, The Range and Wilko!

“Special shout out goes to Wilko for the cupboard paint – life changing.”

And people clearly loved the new look.

One commenter wrote: “What an amazing job you have done, fantastic change, the whole room looks brilliant.”

“This is amazing,” added another.

Sarah is thrilled with her new kitchen.

She told the Daily Star Online Lifestyle team: “I’m really happy with it.

“For anyone looking at doing the same just go for it!"

Sarah continued: “We are busy people and normally pay someone to just come in and do it and this is what my husband wanted to do, but with Covid and job uncertainty I put my foot down and said no we need to save money where we can and we can do it ourselves.

“I’m glad we did as the satisfaction is so good.

“I sat there painting the cupboards and it was really easy and quite therapeutic.”

We think the kitchen looks fantastic.

What a great DIY job!
