Birthday celebrations can be exciting for a lot of people. TikTok star Charli D’Amelio recently celebrated her birthday, but the day was not totally pleasant for her. She shared that there was something “not worth” doing on that special day.
When is Charli D’Amelio’s birthday?
D’Amelio was born on May 1, 2004. She turned 17 in 2021.
D’Amelio only just became the most followed person on TikTok last year, so this was one of the first birthdays she celebrated with fans all over the world.
One thing D’Amelio did was team up with Dunkin’ Donuts and UberEats to give fans discounts. As many people may know, D’Amelio is a fan of Dunkin’, and her favorite order was even added to the menu under the name “The Charli” (and it was later remixed into the “Charli Cold Foam”). The discount lasted during D’Amelio’s birthday week.
Charli D’Amelio said going on social media on her birthday was ‘not worth it’
When it comes to how D’Amelio actually celebrated her birthday, she shared some information during a new episode of the podcast 2 Chix, which she hosts with older sister Dixie. D’Amelio revealed one thing she did not do was go on social media.
“I think it was better that I stayed off social media because I got a lot of hate on my birthday,” she said, according to Dexerto. “Which kinda sucks, like it’s my birthday, you know, it should be a fun day. But since I wasn’t on my phone I didn’t really get to see too much of it so it didn’t really let me down.”
D’Amelio continued by explaining there was a hashtag for her birthday. However, a lot of trolls took over the hashtag to spread negative messages about her.
“I know there was a trending hashtag for my birthday and it was just filled with hate,” D’Amelio said. “I literally clicked on it so surprised and so ready to be like ‘oh my goodness’ and start replying to people and everything. And then it was like, ‘no we actually hate you’ and I was like ‘okay that’s enough phone time for today.”
Fortunately, D’Amelio was able to spend time with her friends, who advised her to not use her phone much. She added, “It’s not even worth it, it really wasn’t. It was my birthday, that was my day to have fun and have a great day, and it was a day that was about me.”
Charli D’Amelio has talked about the mean messages she receives
D’Amelio is no stranger to receiving mean messages online. It is actually a subject she has talked openly about.
On another episode of 2 Chix, she shared that she often receives direct messages on social media commenting on her body and telling her to stop uploading on TikTok. D’Amelio even said, “Before we think that I’m a big baby, we can think about the things that I have to see when I go on my phone. So, I stopped going on my phone. I kind of want you guys to understand both sides, you know.”
Last year, D’Amelio and her sister also worked with UNICEF on Internet Safety Day to bring awareness to cyberbullying.
