Rapper Slowthai appears in court charged with two counts of rape

British rapper Slowthai has appeared in court charged with two counts of rape.

The 28-year-old, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, is accused of oral and vaginal penetration of a woman without her consent in Oxford in September 2021.

Slowthai appeared at Oxfordshire Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address in Northampton.

The musician was bailed and will next appear at Oxford Crown Court on June 15, a court official told the PA news agency after the hearing.

Slowthai released his break-out single Jiggle in 2016 before signing a contract with Method Records the following year.

His debut studio album, Nothing Great About Britain, reached number 9 on the UK charts and was shortlisted for the Mercury prize.

In 2021, following the release of his second album, Tyron, Slowthai was nominated for a Grammy award.

He also won Hero of the Year award at the NME awards before going on to release his third album Ugly.

As well as his own music, Slowthai has appeared on songs by artists including Tyler, the Creator and Gorillaz.

Slowthai is currently in a relationship with fellow popstar Anne-Marie, 31.

Confirming their romance to Rolling Stone, he said about their connection: ‘When you connect it doesn’t matter about any of that [celebrity].

‘You can talk and vent about stuff, but I think the best thing is when you come home removing all that stuff and you don’t even think that you do anything else. Or you don’t even really need to talk about it.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Slowthai’s rep for comment.
