R Kelly 'in solitary as he's scared of other prison inmates'

R Kelly is allegedly being kept in solitary confinement because he doesn’t feel safe around other inmates in prison.

The 52-year-old was denied bail earlier this week after pleading not guilty to charges of child pornography and sex trafficking.

The rapper is ‘fearing for his life’ in prison due to the sex crimes he’s accused of, his attorney Nicole Blank Becker claimed to TMZ.

Becker claimed that when she visited him recently, R Kelly said he prefers being in solitary over being held with the general population.

The attorney also alleged that the singer is illiterate, meaning that simple tasks like reading what is on a commissary list become difficult.

Metro.co.uk has contacted R Kelly’s rep for comment.

The Ignition singer was arrested last Thursday by New York police detectives from the department of Homeland Security.

Joseph D Fitzpatrick, spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois, confirmed Kelly had been arrested on a 13-count indictment.

In a statement (via New York Times), Fitzpatrick said: ‘The indictment includes charges of child pornography, enticement of a minor, and obstruction of justice.’

Kelly previously appeared in court in Chicago in June, where he pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault, which were brought against him on 30 May following the documentary Surviving R Kelly.

Last week it was alleged that former friends of the rapper will ‘turn over 20 tapes of Kelly having sex with underage girls’.
