Pedro Pascal to Portray Joel in 'The Last of Us' HBO TV Series Adaptation

The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are set to take on the roles of Joel and Ellie in the HBO TV series adaptation of The Last of Us.

According to reports, the highly-anticipated show will be helmed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and The Last of Us creative director/Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann, and will be executive produced by Naughty Dog president Evan Wells, Carolyn Strauss and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. The series will be based on the video game franchise, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world that has been overrun by zombies:

“Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Pascal’s Joel, tormented by past trauma and failure, must trek across a pandemic-ravaged America, all the while protecting a girl who represents the last hope of humanity.”

This project marks the second series Pascal and Ramsey have worked on together. Both actors were involved in another HBO series, Game of Thrones, with Pascal portraying Oberyn Martell and Ramsey portraying Lyanna Mormont.
