Far Cry 1 could get a full fan remake after source code leaks online

Source code for the original Far Cry has been discovered online and is free to download, making it a modders paradise.

Assuming the reports are accurate, Far Cry fans still have to wait a couple more years until Far Cry 7 comes out.

A new sequel is no longer at the forefront of the community’s minds though as they’re preoccupied with a major Ubisoft leak; one that has seen the source code for the first Far Cry, from 2004, become available for anyone to download.

Aside from the full game, which is described as being a mostly up-to-date build that only lacks some final polish, the leak also contains the CryEngine v1.34 software used to build it.

The source code was uploaded to the Internet Archive over a week ago on June 24, but word of its existence only seemed to pick up recently after it was spotted by modder Vinícius Medeiros on Twitter.

Judging by the fan response, it is possible to get the game running, although given the age of the game, and the fact that it can be had for less than £10 on Steam and Xbox, means it’s not a disastrous leak for Ubisoft.
