And just like that, we have a trailer for the Sex And The City reboot

And Just Like That, aka the rebooted Sex And The City series, has a new teaser trailer, and it’s given us a massive clue about the state of Carrie and Big’s rocky relationship…

We always hoped that it would happen one day, but Sex And The City will be returning to our screens very soon thanks to HBO’s revival series, And Just Like That.

Once again based in New York City, the 10-episode show follows Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) as they navigate the next chapter of their lives. Which, based on everything we’ve heard so far, involves the Covid-19 pandemic and the swapping of Carrie’s reflective columns for an ever-so-2021 podcast. Obviously.

All those questions fans have been asking about Carrie and Big’s rumoured divorce, however? Well, they have seemingly been answered by a new teaser for the revival series, which dropped at the 2021 Emmy Awards.

Watch the trailer for And Just Like That:

It’s very much a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it type thing, thanks to the nature of the trailer (which is teasing all of HBO Max’s upcoming titles).

Hit play at around 0.25, though, and you’ll hear Carrie utter the words, “And just like that,” as she, Miranda, and Charlotte turn to wave excitedly at someone – presumably Nicole Ari Parker’s character, who has been described as a replacement for Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.

More importantly, of course, is the fact that Chris Noth’s Big can be seen affectionately hugging Carrie from behind, as well as kissing her in another clip. Especially as an alleged script leak implied that the famously on-and-off couple would be very much off (aka divorced) in this TV series.

Then again, these sweet moments could be… well, they could be flashbacks, we suppose. More on that later.

Whatever you make of it, the teaser has certainly sated fans’ appetites for the revival series, which is exactly what producers were hoping for.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour, and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, the head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement, per Deadline.

With that in mind, then, here’s everything we know about the SATC revival so far…

What’s the plot of And Just Like That?

The revival will follow Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as “they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s,” according to an HBO Max news release.

I couldn’t help but wonder … where are they now?

While the show will likely explore lots of themes and events from the last 20 years, SJP has revealed that the coronavirus pandemic will play a role in the character’s lives.

“The [coronavirus pandemic will] obviously be part of the storyline, because that’s the city [these characters] live in,” she previously revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“How has Covid-19 changed relationships once friends disappear? I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all.”

What will And Just Like That writers do about Samantha?

As everyone knows by now, Kim Cattrall will not be reprising her role as Samantha Jones, which is understandably devastating.

Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones) will not be appearing in SATC revival series, And Just Like That.

Explaining the situation to TV Line, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys says: “Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life…

“They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”

It has been hinted that Covid-19 will play a part in explaining Sam’s absence (and, indeed, actors have been spotted filming what appears to be the character’s funeral), but we will have to wait for the show to hit our screens to find out what this really means.

So… does this mean that they’re replacing Samantha?

Previously, SJP was pretty vague on the details when people asked if Samantha would be replaced, insisting that New York will step in as the show’s “fifth character.”

However, as mentioned already, The Guardian has reported that Nicole Ari Parker – known for starring in the acclaimed series Empire as well as Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights –is billed to replace Cattrall in the reboot.

“Oh so fine. I’d sing along to 70s love songs with this trio deep into any night,” SJP recently captioned a photo of herself, Nixon, Davis and Parker locked in a group hug.

“I’ll see you ladies tomorrow!”

As per EW, Parker will play Lisa Todd Wexley, a new best friend of Carrie Bradshaw’s. And, described as “a Park Avenue mother of three,” she’ll be closely linked to the three fashionable friends.

How, though? Well, we’ll have to wait for further details on that.

Will Big be back for And Just Like That?

Despite reports suggesting Chris Noth had decided not to reprise his role as Mr Big in the upcoming Sex And The City reboot, it has now been confirmed that he will be returning to the screen as the iconic character.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That,” the series’ executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement released on Wednesday. “How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex And The City story without our Mr Big?”

Annoyingly, though, a leaked script has suggested that Carrie will have to find a way to get by without Big, because they’re going through a bitter divorce battle. No wonder, then, so many have leapt upon new photos of SJP and Noth filming in NYC to pore over them for signs of marital strife (and subsequently branding Carrie’s outfit a “divorce dress”).

Chris Noth has been spotted filming alongside Sarah Jessica Parker on And Just Like That.

The teaser, as mentioned already, has done some work to undo these rumours, as it shows Big and Carrie at their happiest. It’s worth remembering, though, that they seemed ever so happy at the beginning of the first Sex And The City movie – and we all remember how that turned out, don’t we?

What about Aidan?

If you’ve been keeping up with all the latest updates from the SATC reboot, you’ll know that it was previously confirmed that Carrie’s ex-fiancé Aidan (John Corbett), whom she shared a kiss with in the second SATC movie, no less, will also be returning to the screen for the TV reboot.

“I’m going to do the show,” he told the New York Post, admitting the gig is “very exciting” for him.

“I think I might be in quite a few [of the 10 episodes],” Corbett added. “I like all those people, they’ve been very nice to me.”

And Smith Jerrod?

Considering all the loaded hints that Samantha has been killed off in the revival, it makes sense that her ex-lover won’t be appearing.

Indeed, when asked by the Daily Front Row if he’d been approached about appearing in the reboot, Jason Lewis replied: “I have not, but I would be the last to know! As much as I appreciate the flattery, the conversation is about the girls.”

So, which other characters will be returning for And Just Like That?

It’s been confirmed that Mario Cantone (Anthony), Willie Garson (Stanford), Julie Halston (Bitsy von Muffling), David Eigenberg (Steve) and Evan Handler (Harry) are all starring in the upcoming revival of Darren Star’s classic series.

More intriguing than this, though, is the rumour that Natasha (aka Big’s ex-wife – the one he cheated on with Carrie) will be returning for the show.

That’s right; Bridget Moynahan, who joined Sex And The City in its second season, was spotted by an eagle-eyed fan shooting And Just Like That earlier this summer, prompting many to wonder what on earth she could be in town for. Could her all-black outfit be key to unravelling her motives?

And Just Like That… Charlotte’s daughter Lily is all grownup and taking style cues from her mother.

Are any new characters joining the And Just Like That cast?

As well as Nicole Ari Parker, Sarita Choudhury and Karen Pittman are signed up for the SATC revival. And, better still, the show will also feature its very first non-binary character, played by Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramírez.

Is there a trailer for And Just Like That?

The show doesn’t have a trailer just yet, but Sarah Jessica Parker announced the new series via a teaser video of iconic New York City locations and sounds to Instagram on Sunday 10 January.

“I couldn’t help but wonder … where are they now?” she captioned it.

Who will be overseeing the fashion of And Just Like That?

Sex And The City’s longtime stylist, Patricia Field, will not be working on And Just Like That, as she’s busy providing fashion inspiration for the second season of Netflix’s Emily In Paris

“The main reason was a time conflict,” Field told WWD. “I wasn’t able to be in New York doing that and be in Paris doing Emily In Paris.”

And Just Like That… Carrie and Miranda stroll through Central Park.

Before you start to panic too much, though, the SATC crew will be styled by Field’s protégée, Molly Rogers.

“I told them to call my very dear friend Molly Rogers,” says Field. “She did Sex And The City with me from start to finish. She knew it well, so she’s doing it.”

Rogers will be working alongside Danny Santiago, who served as co-costume designer on the Sex And The City movies.

How many episodes of And Just Like That will there be?

The new series will be comprised of 10 episodes, each of which will clock in at about 30 minutes long.

When will And Just Like That be available to stream?

It will be a wee while before we’re able to watch the SATC reboot, as production is still ongoing in New York right now.

But, while no date has been given for streaming, those in the business are convinced that HBO are planning to get it on our TV screens as soon as possible – think winter 2021 or spring 2022.

Anyone else excited?
