Vicky Pattison details ‘pressure’ to do Nuts shoot aged 23: ‘My mum was devastated’

Vicky Pattison has discussed how she felt "pressure" from MTV to do her first lad mag shoot aged 23 for Nuts, which stopped publishing in 2014.

Vicky, now 34, shot to fame on Geordie Shore following its debut in 2011 and, while the show documented a large majority of the wild antics between the cast members, Vicky branded herself as a “prude”.

Geordie Shore hit our screens in May 2011, and just four months later, Vicky and Charlotte Crosby found themselves in the September edition of Nuts where they were photographed in their underwear.

In her new book The Secret To Happy, the Newcastle-born beauty spoke about her first lads mags shoot and the pressure she felt from MTV.

Vicky has since discussed the topic in more detail with OK!, and how she feels about doing racy shoots now.

She said: “I discuss in the book how I’ve never been a very sexual person. I’m quite a prude, which I know will shock a lot of people, especially as my Instagram is completely awash with bikini pics and things like that. But, I think in particular when I was younger, I didn’t really grow up in a naked house.

“It was very much a you get in the bath, you dry yourself, you put your pyjamas on and then you leave the bathroom kind of household. Because of that, the Geordie Shore house and all of these free girls that were so comfortable and were a lot more comfortable with their sexualities compared to me, even though I was the oldest one, that was a real culture shock for me.”

Vicky went on: “They were all really excited about doing Nuts and things like that, and I felt like I was letting everybody down if I didn’t. I received a little bit of pressure from MTV, I felt like I didn’t want to let anyone down, and I did think ‘Oh it is just a bikini’. I did it and my mum was devastated.”

OK! have approached MTV for comment.

However, Vicky admitted that the shoot itself wasn’t that bad, saying that she “made it out to be something it wasn’t” and that she actually had a “really nice day”.

“Since then, of course I’ve done loads of glamorous bikini shoots. I’ve got my own collection, you know?,” Vicky continued.

“But I think that I felt a bit of pressure, but I probably made it out to be something that it wasn’t in my head.

“I think because it was for a lads mag, I didn’t want to be seen in a certain way.”

Ten years on from doing the shoot, Vicky has a slightly different opinion on the topic of women and their sexuality, and encouraged women to do whatever they want with their bodies.

Vicky said: “Now I have a totally different view. If women want to do OnlyFans, shoot for lad mags or be on Page 3, all the more credit to them. Take control of your body, monetise it, do whatever makes you feel empowered and strong. But yeah, for me, back then, I had a very different view of it.”

“I found shooting for lads mags very empowering as I got older,” the 34 year old added.

“I thought, 'yeah, give me your money as I stand here in this bikini and it’s absolutely fine'. I became really confident, but then I thought I was a little bit young when I did my first one.”
