Steph McGovern, 38, is no stranger to detailing humorous moments in her career and this week was no different when she recalled an embarrassing moment on her Channel 4 Steph’s Packed Lunch. The host discussed a time her tights rolled down as she addressed a crowd at a previous event.

It must’ve looked like I needed the loo

Revealing all, she explained: “Once I was hosting this big event with thousands of people there and I was on stage and I had these new tights [on] and they were quite posh ones.

“The woman in the shop was like, ‘Oh, you’re a medium’.

“I was like, ‘I’m definitely a large, I’m going to buy a large’ and she was like, ‘No, get medium’.”

Taking the shop assistant’s advice, Steph opted for the medium size but soon realised this was a regretful choice.

She went on to say: “I bought medium, I shouldn’t have, I should’ve got large.

“I was stood there and all of a sudden they just rolled down to my knees and I was in front of this audience.

“I had to stand and at the end when this thing had finished, I just didn’t move, it must’ve looked like I needed the loo.”

Demonstrating her walk off stage to her audience, she added: “I was like, what am I going to do here? And I just walked off the stage like, ‘Thank you everybody’.”

Steph told the story on a recent episode of her new Channel 4 show.

The presenter debuted her new programme from a studio in Leeds last month after previously presenting it from her home during lockdown.

Last week, the former BBC Breakfast host reacted to a viewer who asked if her show was to be axed after reported low viewing figures.

Official figures stated that zero viewers were recorded 20 minutes into an episode.

The show registered zero viewers at 12.56pm on Tuesday 22 September, according to Official Barb ratings.

Steph’s slot is up against long-running ITV show Loose Women.

Odds suggested Channel 4 bosses could bring the show to an early end, however Steph defiantly denied this on social media.

A Twitter user wrote: “Is your show closing?”

Steph simply replied: “Nope,” in view of her 405,000 followers.

A Channel 4 spokesperson told Express Online: “On Tuesday Steph’s Packed Lunch attracted 204,000 viewers at its peak.

“Daytime shows always take time to build their audience, Steph has brought a blast of energy to our daytime line-up and we’re delighted with the live shows the team has produced.”

“It was a tough call to go up against such an established and well-loved show as Loose Women and there’s no doubt the decision is hurting C4 and these ratings show it,” a source told Mirror Online.

“ITV were always confident the Loose Women would see off their competition – and in fact their numbers keep going up.”
