Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, Archie Harrison, is being christened on July 6, 2019, in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle. However, the private event has a very select guest list.
As previously reported by the royal correspondent for The Sunday Times, Roya Nikkhah, “The Queen will miss the christening because of prior commitments.”
And it’s also been revealed that Meghan’s close friend, Serena Williams, will miss the festivities. The tennis superstar is currently competing in Wimbledon 2019, and when asked if she was attending Archie’s christening (via People) told reporters,”No, I’m working on Saturday.”
The athlete confirmed that “[Meghan] understands work.” In fact, it’s thought that only around 25 guests will be in attendance at the private christening.
It’s also worth noting that Archie’s intimate and private christening doesn’t actually stray that far from royal tradition. As Royal Musings founder and royal historian, Marlene Koenig, previously told BAZAAR.com, “The British royals have largely had private baptisms for centuries prior to the advent of photography, a court correspondent would write a visual report of the baptism for The Times and other British papers.”
