R.E.M. To Reissue ‘Monster’ For 25th Anniversary

R.E.M. have announced they will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of their ninth studio album, Monster, with a reissue via Craft Recordings.

Along with the announcement, R.E.M. shared audio of the remixed “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?”

The reissue of Monster will feature six discs that include a remastered version of the album, a collection of unheard demos, a new remix of the album from Scott Litt and a previously unreleased live recording.

The collection will also contain a Blu-ray disc that features the 1996 concert film Road Movie and the album’s music videos. The set will also contain a portfolio book with archival photos and liner notes from Matthew Perpetua.

“The original 1994 version was dense in guitars and feedback with the vocals mixed within the sonic wall, but on this alternative version the guitars are pulled back and the vocals pushed forward to create a more open sound and showcase often-revealing lyrics,” a statement from the band noted.

The box set, as well as a double-vinyl edition, will be out on November 1.
