Prince Harry and Meghan ordered to apologise for Oprah comments before funeral

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been instructed to mend their rift with the Prince and Princess of Wales and apologise forcomments made in their infamous interviewwithOprah Winfrey, according to royal insiders.

The interview is said to have “crossed the line” withPrince WilliamandKate Middletonfeeling unable to move on until they receive an apology fromPrince HarryandMeghan Markle .

Royal insiders say that the pair have been told to say sorry for the interview and "acknowledge the motives behind it" ahead of the funeral ofQueen Elizabeth II today.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020 and the pair then gave a no-holds-barred interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

They levied a number of accusations at the royal family including claiming that an unnamed senior royal questioned "how dark" their son Archie's skin might be when he was born.

Meghan also claimed that Kate Middleton made her cry during an altercation about bridesmaid dresses in the lead up to her 2018 wedding, contradicting previous claims that it was actually Meghan who made Kate cry.

The couple also said that the nowKing Charles had stopped taking his son’s phone calls following their move to the US.

Now,The Telegraphhas reported that William and Kate want some form of "acknowledgement" over the hurt they felt in the aftermath of the interview.

A royal insider said: “They feel that Oprah crossed a line and that someone should acknowledge the motives behind it and the pain it caused.

“They [William and Kate] feel they’ve had to be steely to send a message that you cannot just say this hugely upsetting stuff without there being consequences.”

Another insider, who referenced Harry's upcoming memoir, added to the publication: “It’s really hard to spend time with someone, or even to speak openly, when you know they’re writing a book about you and giving interviews. The trust is gone right now.”

The group had previously been dubbed the ‘Fab Four’ prior to the Sussexes' exit from royal life.

The rift between the two couples has appeared to cause tension within the royal family, with the Duke and Duchess seemingly beinguninvited to a state receptionheld by King Charles at Buckingham Palace.
