Piers, who occasionally presents alongside Kate on Good Morning Britain, shared a few words after Kate updated her followers about Derek’s current health condition.

In view of his 7.5 million followers last night, Piers shared a tweet from the Daily Mail which read: “Kate Garraway wipes away a tear as she claps for carers in 10th weekly salute to NHS.”

Sharing his response, Piers announced: “This breaks my heart.

“Few happier, more positive people than @kategarraway. Or a more loyal, decent friend & colleague.”

“Sending all my love to Kate & continuing to root for Derek.”

Shortly after Piers sent his love onto Kate and her children, many followers joined in to send the presenter their best wishes.

One wrote: “Praying for Derek Kate xx. Can’t imagine you’re pain xxxx.”(sic)

Another commented: “Oh gosh Kate, we’re just heartbroken for you, sending you much love and praying for you to get some good news.”

This comes after Kate reached out on Instagram last night to share an update about Derek and their family.

Alongside a video of her two children Billy, 10, and Darcey, 14, drumming during last night’s Clap for Carers, the ITV star told her 783,000 followers: “Hear this might be the last clap for carers so Billy thought we should get the drums out to go out in style!

“It’s been such a source of weekly comfort for them & me & I must admit I felt the tears come tonight to think it’s coming to an end while our fear for Derek goes on.”

Kate went on to tell her followers how there is still “hope” by adding: “But even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the #nhs.

“They are keeping Derek alive & everyone of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited,” the journalist explained.

“Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it?”

Kate went on to say: “I am having to find new ways of staying strong everyday for Darcey & Billy , as I know Derek would want me to.
