Kirsty Gallacher steps back as GB News presenter after discovering ear tumour

Kirsty Gallacher has announced that she has 'stepped back' as a presenter on GB News after she discovered a tumour in her ear canal.

The TV presenter, 45, who has been a presenter on the Great British Breakfast since June 2021, shared to her 355,000 Instagram followers that she had discovered a tumour in her right inner ear canal during the summer.

However, Kirsty, who shares Jude, 11, and Oscar, four, with ex-husband Paul Sampson, revealed how the tumour is 'thankfully benign' but has led to 'severe tinnitus'.

In a statement on Friday 26 November, Kirsty penned: "During the summer I discovered that I have a tumour in the inner canal of my right ear. Thankfully, it's benign and not hugely detrimental to my normal life.

"However, the tumour has caused severe tinnitus which makes it very difficult to sleep. Sadly my 3am starts at GB News, compounded by sleep deprivation, are exacerbating my symptoms.

"I've taken the difficult decision to step back from my role on the Great British Breakfast while I focus on my health. GB News has been incredibly supportive of me and I look forward to returning to the channel as soon as I can.

"As I adjust to managing my condition, I will carry on my less disruptive work commitments and continue maintaining a healthy lifestyle and training so I can get back to my normal routine quickly."

Kirsty was inundated with support from her followers including celebrity friends and fellow TV presenters.

Paddy McGuinness penned: "A bit of time out, get yourself right and you’ll be back stronger than ever."

Charlotte Hawkins added: "Oh no, so sorry to hear that, sending love."

Catherine Tyldesley wrote: "Oh darling. Sending healing and a bear hug. Get well soon."

It comes after Kirsty previously said that she has grown in confidence in her 40s and now trusts her "gut feelings", reflected in her decision to step away from Sky Sports.

“I wanted more of a challenge, so I went freelance, which I really love,” she says, revealing she was life-coached in this direction by her brother-in-law, comedian Russell Brand. (Russell is married to Kirsty’s sister Laura.)

“He said, ‘It’s time for passion projects’ and he was so right,” she says. “I’m so excited about what’s happening. I’ve got a podcast coming out and, hopefully, the TV and radio projects I was talking about earlier in the year. Being able to pick and choose a little bit more feels liberating.”
