He wrote on top of the snap: “1 year clean & sober”.
James added: “A huge milestone I’m extremely proud of” followed by a red heart emoji.
It comes after James, who’s best pal Mark Wright said he worried every day about Arg, candidly opened up on his battle with cocaine addiction last year.
The Only Way is Essex star explained how he hit “rock bottom” when he suffered two overdoses in 2019.
Speaking in May last year, James recalled how he had locked himself in his home and “took drugs for three days straight on my own in the pitch black”.
He said: “I was at rock bottom. My heart was beating out of my chest, my nose was bleeding, I was shaking and my breathing was terrible.
“My family were banging on the door screaming, ‘Open up’ but I wasn’t answering the door to anyone. They feared I’d overdosed and was dead in the house.”
He revealed how his door had been broken down and was told by the paramedic he could have died because of how much he'd taken and they were worried about the damage he had done.
James then explained how he put his life in more danger when he overdosed for a second time two months later the night before his birthday, which is on 5 December 2019.
He recalled to The Sun Online how he was determined not to ruin the night because he wanted to be with his family and Gemma.
“But my addiction was so bad I couldn’t stop myself. I started early and was in a terrible place,” he continued.
“I locked myself in, phone was off and my parents and friends were banging on the door again.”

James previously opened up on when he began to start using drugs “heavily” in a candid This Morning interview in May.
Arg admitted his addiction to cocaine worsened following his split from Lydia Bright in 2012, when he was accused of cheating on the blonde beauty.
He said: “When I got to TOWIE, the whole thing was a shock to me. I’d only had one girlfriend my whole life, that was Lydia, I wasn’t earning any money before TOWIE, I was going from job to job trying to make it as a wedding singer.
“Then, all of a sudden I started earning good money every week, I had lots of attention from women in nightclubs and stuff and that kind of went all to my head.
“And when Lydia broke up with me, I suppose it was a bit of a shock and I struggled to deal with that.”
