Melissa Suffield has shared a candid photo of herself soothing her nipples with cabbage leaves as her breasts turn painful due to feeding her son.

The 28 year old welcomed her first child — a son named River — last March, and has now opened up on how her breasts feel "lumpy" after expressing milk for him.

Former EastEnders star Melissa took to social media to share the playful snap of herself with the leaves over her breasts as she looks down at them.

She wrote to her 16,500 Instagram followers: "Cabbage life (10 days since I last pumped, and feeling a little lumpy bumpy, so time to employ a helping hand!)"

Fellow new mum Paloma Faith recently turned to the vegetable leaves to soothe her nipples after opening up on the reality of motherhood.

The singer said last month: "I've been diagnosed with acute engorgement. This means I have too much milk and the baby isn't big or strong enough to drain it and get it out. It's painful. The boobs are rock hard.

"I'm trying massage while feeding, it hurts so much like a deep tissue massage and not much is helping.

"Hot showers/massage/hand expressing and poor baby is really over it with the exhausting hard work she needs to do to get the milk out of all those swollen blocked ducts."

Earlier this month, Melissa won praise from fans as she confidently flaunted her stunning post-baby body in white underwear.

One photo showed Melissa, who played Lucy Beale in the BBC soap, kneeling on her bed in the white two-piece bra and knickers.

Meanwhile the next photo saw the mum-of-one smiling as she confidently looked away from the camera while posing in the matching bra and knickers.

As she shared the images with her followers, Melissa explained her excitement to "start concentrating on herself again" in the caption.

Melissa, who previously said she "detests" her post-baby body, told her fans: "Finishing breastfeeding after a year, I'm like OH HEY BODY, WELCOME BACK.

"It feels good to know I can start to concentrate on myself again, and take back some ownership after pregnancy and pumping.

"Starting on making little daily changes, whether that's an extra caffeinated coffee, or underwear that isn't for feeding a baby."

The actress then told her fans: "Who knows where my body is going to go from now, but I'm all about doing what I can to make myself feel good TODAY. And getting out of crop tops and maternity pants is certainly a good place to start."
