Faye Brookes opens up on Dancing On Ice injury worries ‘The one show I said I wouldn’t do’

Dancing on Ice: Faye Brookes announced as 2020 contestant

Former Coronation Street star Faye Brooks previously said she didn’t want to take part in Dancing On Ice, as she was worried about getting injured. The 33-year-old, who is tipped to win the 2021 series of the ice skating show, said it seemed “dangerous”.

Speaking to the press, the actress revealed she has said in the past that it was the one reality show that she would never do.

“Naturally, there’s a worry because it’s dangerous.. I think I actually said in the past it was the only reality show, I would never do,” she added.

Opening up about why she changed her mind, Faye said the past year had opened her eyes and reminded her that “life’s too short.”

The idea of taking on a new challenge appealed to her.

“I said, ‘Yeah I’ll do it’ because I just love the idea of this new challenge.

“And over the past year I’ve sort of decided, why not? Life’s too short,” Radio Times reports her saying.

Faye is best known for playing Kate Connor in Coronation Street, a role she portrayed for four years until her exit in 2019.

In August of the same year, she also split from her fiancé, Gareth Gates.

Kate is now dating personal trainer Joe Davies.

After changing her mind and agreeing to take part in the ITV show, Faye has been partnered with professional skater Hamish Gaman.

The couple will make their Dancing On Ice debut on Sunday.

The reality programme, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, returned last weekend with the first six of 12 celebrities taking to the ice with their partners.

Confirming her worries about the risk in taking part in the show, several of the contestants have already become injured on the programme, with Faye herself admitting that she has suffered several falls in training.

“I fall every day in training, everyday. I am definitely having to buy a tube of Arnica cream every week.

“I have got so many bruises just from little falls,” The Mirror reports.

At the weekend, her co-star Denise Van Outen had to be taken to hospital ahead of the opening show after a stumble sent her flying on the ice.

The 46-year-old TV star later revealed she had dislocated her shoulder following the fall in rehearsals.

After receiving the ok from medics, Denise was able to perform on the live show and scored 19.5 points for her efforts.

Another accident before the series even started caused Graham Bell’s partner Yebin Mok to temporarily leave the competition.

The blade on an ice skate lacerated her leg, forcing her to sit on the sidelines while resting.

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
