Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale, announced the exciting news in a new interview alongside his partner Steph Jones, 29. The ITV favourite revealed he got engaged to his midwife girlfriend earlier this year while on a trip to the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

The 30-year-old also announced that the couple are expecting their first child together.

The new arrival comes after the pair had been trying to conceive for a year.

The couple was due to undergo IVF treatment when Steph discovered that she was pregnant.

The pair, who met in primary school, have been together for two years and have had a memorable start to the year.

Speaking in a new interview with OK! magazine, Danny gushed: “It’s been amazing. We’ve had a lot of time to process it so it’s finally sunk in now.”

Steph said: “It was a massive surprise because emotionally we’d been psyching ourselves up for IVF. It was meant to be.

“We got engaged at the beginning of January and found out we were expecting in February.”

On their wonderful news, Danny said that they feel so “incredibly lucky” and “humbled” by their good news, knowing that many people do not have a similar experience.

Steph explained that she received so many negative pregnancy tests so the pair were stunned when the result came back positive.

The Aaron Dingle actor revealed that he learned of the good news while filming the soap’s barn explosion storyline.

“When I saw how many times she had rang me I had a feeling. I thought, either she’s pregnant or something serious is going on,” Danny explained.

The couple had a tough few months as they underwent fertility treatment.

Experts advised Steph would struggle to conceive due to having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – a common condition that affects women’s ovaries.

Danny admitted, it was tough to stay positive, as he remarked: “After a lot of trying and difficult periods when it’s not working for you, I think you start to lose hope.”

“I was almost blaming myself for it and thinking, ‘Is it me who is not working?’ And Steph was doing the same.”

Meanwhile, the actor popped the question on a romantic holiday in St Lucia in January.

Steph booked the trip for his 30th birthday, and it ended up being a double celebration.

Danny proposed to his girlfriend as the pair had enjoyed a candlelit dinner on the beach.

Addressing the wedding guest list, the Emmerdale actor revealed he was keen to invite his former co-stars Kelvin Fletcher and Adam Thomas.

Emmerdale airs tonight on ITV at 7pm.
