Dancing On Ices John Fashanu is first star to leave ITV show after skate-off with Ekin-Su

John Fashanu became the first person to leave ITV's Dancing On Ice after finding himself in the skate-off with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

Football star John and his partner Alexandra Schauman took to the ice once again to try and save themselves from getting the boot, but ultimately, the judges, Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse, chose to save Love Island's Ekin-Su and her partner Brendyn Hatfield.

Before the decision was announced, John said that he knew he hadn't done enough to save himself on the show, whilst Ekin-Su look relieved as she found out she was going through to the next week.

The judges chose to save Ekin-Su on the basis that she included "more technical skating in her routine".

After it was announced that he would be the first to leave the show, John told host Holly Willoughby: “It’s been great, whatever happens, it’s been wonderful… like the FA Cup final again!

Holly's co-host Phillip Schofield then asked him if he would "carry on skating," to which John replied: "Oh yes! I shall carry on skating and who knows, I might even start teaching people."

Judge and Olympic skater Christopher Dean said of John's performance: "I think you are the most improved skater since bootcamp. You were a liability in bootcamp, but you made it, you were steady out there."

Speaking before the skate-off, Ekin-Su said: "Speaking before the skate-off she said: 'I'm not going to lie I was really upset thinking what have I done wrong but I'm strong, I need to work hard and prove myself."

Ekin-Su has faced a tough time on the show after her first routine last week received over 100 complaints on Ofcom, with some branding it "not appropriate" after she wore a flesh-baring jewelled outfit and crawled across the ice.

The Love Island 2022 winner performed a routine to Britney Spears' song Toxic, as her crawl gave a nod to the infamous moment on Love Island when she crawled across the balcony to kiss Jay Younger whilst she was coupled up with Davide Sanclimenti, who she went on to win the show with.

Ekin-Su posted a series of defiant messages on social media following the complaints, as she said: "Don’t ever compare yourself to others. You are not a copy, you are an original. Craft your own individuality and sense of style! And just be yourself.”

In another tweet, Ekin-Su added: "Don’t study me. You won’t graduate."

Fans of the show took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at not having much time to vote for their favourite skating pair on tonight's show.

One person tweeted: "Really really ridiculous the amount of time you get to vote for @dancingonice. It's literally impossible for everyone to have time to vote."
