Chris Evans, 55, married Billie Piper in 2001 when he was 34 and she was 19. They split in 2004 and officially divorced in 2007, but the pair have remained very close friends, something the radio DJ admits “never gets less weird”.
It never gets any less weird interviewing your ex-wife about her living
But despite this weirdness, he revealed it’s nice to have her in his life regardless of their whirlwind past.
It comes after he chatted with Billie on his Monday morning Virgin Radio show about what she’s up to at the moment.
After an enjoyable conversation, he prepared to end their chat, saying: “Lovely to talk to you on the radio… because thats what I do for a living.”
The actress burst out laughing as Chris giggled: “But it’s also just nice to have you in my life! Thank you so much!”
Billie gushed and thanked him for his time as they bid each other farewell.
Once the phone line went dead, Chris sat back and began to reflect.
“It never gets any less weird interviewing your ex-wife about her living,” he said to his co-star Vassos Alexander.
He replied: “It doesn’t sound weird!” referring to their close friendship.
Chris hooted: “Well it feels it, let me tell you!”
“I’m thinking about it too much.”
After amicably parting ways after their split, Billie attended Chris’ marriage to his current wife Natasha Shishmanian, whom he married in 2007.
The actress has appeared numerous times on his Virgin Radio show, where they’ve chatted about everything from their work to their past on-air.
Last year, Billie opened up about her six year marriage to the radio personality, while featuring on David Tennant’s podcast.
The former Doctor Who star asked: “You had this whirlwind marriage to Chris Evans who was, and is, a famous television and radio personality. The two of you sort of dropped out of life, didn’t you?
“It was like tabloid catnip. They couldn’t believe that this young girl and this slightly older man could really be having this wonderful time. But for you, it was a purely positive experience,” he added.
Billie, who has recently starred in the smash hit Sky Drama I Hate Suzie, recalled the pair’s “amazing” and “reckless” romance.
She replied: “We had a really amazing time together, you know? I imagine it’s what your uni years feel like. Sort of reckless, but you’re learning a lot.
“It was an incredible time and not to undermine our relationship because we also had a very loving relationship.
“It wasn’t just, oh we’re getting, going out, getting f**ked. We had a very caring, loving relationship.”
The Chris Evans Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6:30am on Virgin Radio.
