Carol Vorderman, 58, is always happy to retell tales from her childhood and it was no different when she told listeners of a traumatic experience on BBC Radio Wales. Speaking to her co-host Owain Wyn Evans, the mathematician revealed she and her mother had moved out of her stepfather’s home for the circus. But she left with one paritcular item which broke her mother’s heart. Carol told listeners: “This bear called Bunji. He’s quite pink.
“Well he was pink and white, and he only had one ear. That’s why nobody wanted to buy him. He was in the sale even before Christmas.
“Nobody wanted to buy this bear.”
She continued: “So she [her mother] could afford to buy this bear – a couple of shillings or something she spent to buy this bear for me.
“She brought him home and he goes everywhere with me, and he has been with me ever since.”
Carol then admitted her mother had left the family home with Carol and Bunji.
“When my mum left my stepfather for the first time, when she ran way to the circus with me and Bunji came,” she explained.
“And we were in this awful place with a broken window opposite Leicester prison. I think I was nine then.”
She concluded: “We were staying in there and she said, ‘It broke her heart because I said Bunji hadn’t got a home anymore’.
“And she thought, ‘Oh God I’ve got to do something to get out of this situation’.”
Meanwhile, the presenter recently said she’s not interested in showing off her general knowledge skills on Celebrity Mastermind.
The Countdown favourite surprised Owain when she admitted she had “refused” to appear on the BBC programme as a contestant.
Their discussion about the game show began when Carol gushed about her love for BBC drama Keeping Faith on air and said that could be her specialist subject.
Carol explained: “Keeping Faith is fantastic and you’ve got to watch series two.
“I’ve decided… I’ve refused to go on Celebrity Mastermind for all these years but that is going to be my specialist subject, Keeping Faith series one and two.”
Elsewhere, the age-defying beauty showed off her enviable physique as she sported the RAF uniform for the Red Arrows air show.
She teamed the dark green outfit with a pair of heels as her blonde tresses blew in the wind.
In view of her 407,000 Twitter followers, she captioned the post: “Hanging out at @airtattoo waiting for
@rafredarrows @RAFRed1 to fly our amazing @astro_timpeake…counting down…”
